Many of us love moths and enjoy photographing them, you only have to look at some of the wonderful photographs on dA to see what masterpieces of Nature they are. But moths and butterflies are in serious decline in the UK at the moment and so it would be nice if we could all do a little to give them a helping hand.
National Moth Night (NMN) is Britains celebration of moths and moth recording. It's run jointly by
Atropos and
Butterfly Conservation (the UK charity taking action to save butterflies, moths and their habitats). With their permission I've used some of the images, graphics and text from their website here to try to promote NMN and I've created a stamp that you can use in your Journal if you'd like to.

On the 7th June participants throughout the British Isles are encouraged to record the moths in their chosen location and the results will be pooled into Britains largest survey of what species are flying around the country. Much important information has been generated as a result of National Moth Night events in previous years, including new county records, new sites for scarce species and records of rare immigrants. Public events take place around the country, which can be a great introduction to the world of moths. National Moth Night grabs the imagination of those taking part and has involved some fine displays of British eccentricity in terms of unusual methods of recording moths, as well as visits to some unusual locations.
So get involved with National Moth Night 2008 and find out whats flying in your area.
